While many schools have Teachers who are also part of the counseling team or Counselors that also teach, there is a role limit in Scoir for this.
Staff members cannot be both a Teacher and Counselor in Scoir. They must be either one or the other.
So which one should you use? That will depend on the access needed for the user.
The main function of a Teacher is to provide recommendations for students. Students can request recommendations and Teachers can submit them to Scoir. Teachers can also generate recommendations on their own, without a request from a student. However, Teachers have a very limited view and can only see a limited amount of data for the student making the request.
While a Counselor can add recommendations directly to the student's documents tab in Scoir, Counselors cannot get requests submitted to them by students. Students would need to see the Counselor in person and ask for a request, these cannot be submitted through Scoir. Only those staff members listed as a Teacher are available for the student to select in the drop down menu when requesting recommendations.
If the user needs to have access to view all of the high school students and their data, they should be designated as a counselor. If the user only needs access to write or upload and submit recommendations, they should be listed as a Teacher.
