There are several criteria a Student can use to narrow down a College Search base on their personal and academic interest. The ultimate goal is to take the list of Scoir colleges and narrow this list down to the colleges that match your interests and academic focus. Filters are used to help the student with this process.
Scoir also offers a Primary and a Private search option.
A student's Primary search option (which will save the filters students have selected for their search) is shared with the counselor and the parent. Any filters entered in the Private search option are not shared with anyone, but remain private to the student only.
By default, the College Search will default to Colleges offering Bachelors degree programs and those Colleges in the Domestic US. Of course, those options can easily be changed as needed by editing the search criteria. Any of the blue criteria pills contained at the top of your search page can be removed by clicking on the 'x'.
To begin, navigate to the College Search Tab. Under the "Personal Interests" category, start typing an interests, such as "lacrosse" and SCOIR will pre-file with categories which can be selected. Enter as many personal interest choices as desired.
Each time you enter a new interest, you will see this reflected at the top of your screen in a blue pill. These filters will automatically be saved for you as you enter them.
Enter any Academic focus if desired. Each piece of added criteria will result in narrowing down the College list to those schools that may support this criteria.
Are you interested in a 2-year College, a 4-year College, or Both?
Distance/Location: This area allows Students to add a zip code and use the slide to narrow a search area in distance from that zip code. As an alternative, a State(s) can be entered if there is a particular State choice the Student has in mind.
Domestic USA or International College?
Expand and navigate through all of the criteria tabs to ensure all of the filter selections are in place. Matching Colleges will appear on the right side of the screen.
If all interests and academic focus match, both rectangle areas shown by the College will be green. If only some of the interest criteria match, or academic interest match, rectangles will be yellow. If no matches are found, these will be red. This helps Student to get a quick view of the Colleges matching their interest and focus.
clicking on the yellow tab will show the matching results.
College details can be accessed by clicking on the College name or logo.
